Breaking out of her britches

We came in from putting Grace down for bed, and this is how we found her.
She had wiggled and kicked herself right out of her sleeper.

No feet...or legs for that matter

The way Grace curled up in her crib this morning, it looks like she doesn't have any feet.

Samson

Thought this was a cute picture of Samson with his little paw. He looks so relaxed!

Birth and Beyond Clinic

Grace and Monmy have been going to the Birth and Beyond clinic in the Hemet Hospital, for regular weight checks.

(See post below entitled 'Grace" for more info on this issue, and her visit to the Hospital in Mid December.)

Here is Jenifer with Grace. She is the one we have been seeing regularly when we g to the clinic. At this latest visit, Grace weighed 11 lbs 2 oz, and gained 18 oz from her previous visit which was 2 weeks ago.

She's getting so big.

A visit from GramZ

Grace with Daddy

Grace and mommy

GramZ called and said she had a day off for Martin Luther King Jr. day and asked if she could come over and play. She and Grace had a grand ol' time. Tracy taught Gandma a new song and they sang the duet to Grace, who just couldn't take her eyes off Grandma.

Can't get enough of each other.

It's always great when some one else volunteers to change diapers.

Thanks for coming GramZ. We all had a GREAT time!

John Deere

It was a lot of fun putting this fleece blanket together for Lacey. It matches our couch so well, I might just have to make one for us too.

Grace - a weekend in the hospital

On December 11th, Tracy went in for her 6 week check up with the OB. All went well with the appointment, but when the Dr. looked at Grace, she thought she looked way to thin and asked what her Dr. said about it. Tracy told her the whole story about going to the OB clinic at Hemet hospital and everything. She thought Grace really needed to be looked at by a Pediatrician so she called one she knew and we were able to get in. When Dr. Panse saw Grace looking so thin, with loss of muscle tone, etc. she said to take her to Loma Linda Children's Hospital...to the ER. She wanted to rule out anything serious like pyloric stenosis. She called ahead to let them know what to expect. Tracy cried in the Dr.s office at the thought of taking her 6 week old to emergency. It took all afternoon, and evening before Grace was finally admitted to the hospital. They did rule out anything serious, just by asking us questions and examining Grace. They determined that she just wasn't getting enough nutrition, but they kept us there all weekend to observe, and be sure there was nothing else wrong. Upon discharge, they told us that she needed to nurse for 20 min, and then take 1-2 oz of formula, every 3 hrs. Also, as part of her discharge orders, Grace needed to see the Dr., and get weekly weight checks, to be sure she stays on track.

Probably the most traumatic part of the evening was when Grace had to get her IV put it. It took 3 nurses and 4 pokes for them to finally get a line in. Poor baby...and poor parents who had to sit by and watch and not be able to do a thing about it.

In ER getting her heart rate checked.

Gracie our red toed baby.

This one didn't turn out so great, but it shows the glow of the heart rate monitor so much better.

All tuckered out from a long afternoon of waiting.
She finally got admitted, now it's time to sleep.
In the corner is the little Christmas card the hospital gave us.

That railing lowers, but it also raises...and with the hood down, it looks like she's in a little jail cell.

In the ER, as is standard procedure, the staff tested Grace for MRSA (a bacteria that many people have naturally on their skin). On Sunday morning, they informed us that she tested positive for this and needed to be moved to isolation. It's not something that was life threatening or anything, but if passed on to others, it can cause infections that are resilient to many antibiotics, so they wanted to keep her away from other children. They told us that anyone who came into her room would have to put on a gown and gloves...including us. However, they didn't make us wear them, just the nurses and the doctors. Whew!!!

Grace's hand can't come through her sleeve, because of the IV.

Here's a pretty good shot of her IV and bandages. As it turns out, they didn't even need to give her any meds through it. It's better to have it there, though, in case there was an emergency.

They only had one chair that made out into a bed in the room, so Daddy didn't get to stay with us in the hospital. When he returned on Sunday morning, he came bear-ing gifts. Peter stopped off int he gift shop and got Grace this cute little nurse bear, to commemorate her trip to the hospital. He also got a wonderful smelling bag of potpourri for mommy, which we are still enjoying in our home. Thanks, Honey!

Grace just had her bath and is getting dressed to go home.

Looks like she loves the teddy bear daddy got for her.

She can't seem to take her eyes off it.

One last pic of her IV before they remove it.

The bandages after the IV was removed.

Such a face!

Final feeding before we head home.

At home with all our hospital bands.

Kissing her good night.

Now Grace is doing GREAT. She is growing at a normal rate for her age. For those of you who knew about all this as it was going on, thanks for all your prayers and support.
