Birthing Class and Hospital Tour

This week we finished up our birthing class. It was very informative and helpful. Now, if only we can practice the things we learned when the time comes...

On Saturday we went on a hospital tour. We got to see the facility and familiarize ourselves with it a bit. The video we watched showed what rooms looked like in both hospitals, but since they were all filled up we couldn't physically go in any of them. They have 2 locations that are in the same system so we decided we liked the Inland Medical facility better. They have more large labor rooms, and they just looked more comfortable. They also mentioned that this one is less busy then the one where we had the tour. We drove over there after the tour of Rancho Springs, and turned in our paperwork. We also drove around so we know exactly where to go on delivery day. We are so excited, and only have 4 weeks left before we meet our little blessing form God face to face.

Your pregnancy: 36 weeks

How your baby's growing:

Your baby is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. She now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. She's shedding most of the downy covering of hair that covered her body as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that covered and protected her skin during her nine-month amniotic bath. Your baby swallows both of these substances, along with other secretions, resulting in a blackish mixture, called meconium, will form the contents of her first bowel movement.

At the end of this week, your baby will be considered full-term. (Full-term is 37 to 42 weeks; babies born before 37 weeks are pre-term and those born after 42 are post-term.) Most likely she's in a head-down position. But if she isn't, your practitioner may suggest scheduling an "external cephalic version," which is a fancy way of saying she'll try to coax your baby into a head-down position by manipulating her from the outside of your belly.

Muffin Update

The tests came back inconclusive, so they decided to treat her for heart disease. We got her some meds, and gave them to her for several days. At first she seemed to improve. She had more energy, and it was easier for her to breath. We kept an eye on her, and after a couple days she was back to looking sick again. When she stopped eating, we decided it was time to take her in. This was one of the most difficult things we have had to do. We will be able to bring her home in a few days, after her private cremation, so we can bury her.

Muffin and Sampson enjoying the windowsill. They didn't have a place to look out like this in our old place unless we left the door open, so this is a special treat for them.

Enjoying a nice back scratch together.

Sampson misses her too. We are glad though that she is no longer suffering.

We love you sweet Muffin!

Wallpaper Border

On Tuesday Spephanie and Drew came over to help put up the wall paper border. Drew was busy watching Cars, which helped Steph and I get a lot done. It was a little more difficult than we thought it would be at first, but we soon got the hang of it, and it seemed to take no time at all. They were able to stay for lunch, but then had to leave to go pick up Ellie from school.
Thanks for all your help Steph, I couldn't have done it without you.

Drew got himself all set up on the couch.
He arranged all the pillows making a little bed for himself. When we came out to check on him, Steph decided to put the blanket over him. He looked so cute all bundled up!

Workin' on wall #3.

So far so good.

All done and getting things back in order.

A few more finishing touches and the nursery will be all decorated and ready for baby.

Trying to get a still picture of this was too difficult. I just had to video it instead.

Our sweet Muffin

Our kitty Muffin is pretty sick. They've already done a few tests, and are awaiting the results from another, but we may be faced with some difficult decisions soon. Hopefully it is something that is treatable. She has been at the vet for a few hours today, and Sampson already misses her. When we know more, we will let you know too.

Disneyland

This was our last trip to Disneyland before the baby comes. Labor Day usually isn't very crowded, but this year...maybe it's finally catching on. We have gone on Labor Day for the last 3 yrs, and this was the busiest. We had a good time and look forward to returning with Grace. The highlight of the day, believe it or not, was actually the train ride around the park. When we stopped at the Toontown depot, Grace started moving around a lot. Peter got to feel her quite a bit. I think she wanted us to get off so she could meet Mickey Mouse, and see where all the characters live.

On the train at the Main Street depot, overlooking the main entrance.

A view of the Matterhorn from the Monorail station. Maybe next time we can actually ride the Matterhorn. We got our passes in Dec, and got pregnant in February, so we haven't been on the big rides since.

Pretty waterfall with the Nemo submarine coming through it.

The Monorail in action.

Ending this adventure to Disneyland at California Adventure. We saw Aladdin at the Hyperion Theater. That Genie just makes the whole show such a blast. If you haven't seen it, the line to get in is worth the wait!
